The first-ever Internet service that allows customers to watch and stream free online video content without paying for it, Verizon said Tuesday.
The move marks the first time Verizon has officially provided Internet access to its FiOS Internet customers without paying a monthly fee.
Customers can now stream YouTube, Hulu, Vimeo, Netflix and Vimeo Plus videos without having to pay for the service.
Verizon is now the only major U.S. Internet service provider to offer the service without a monthly contract.
The company said the move was made to keep customers from getting frustrated with the slow speeds that they are getting.
The service is available to FiOS subscribers who pay an annual fee of $99 for unlimited data and 5GB of free local wireless data.
Verify customers can stream YouTube videos from the Verizon YouTube TV service and Hulu and Vulture channels from Verizon’s YouTube TV.
Verizon is also the first U.K. provider to provide its customers with an online video streaming service for free.
Verity said the new service is designed to give consumers the flexibility to watch video on their phones and computers, while still allowing them to access the full breadth of online content.
Verified customers can also access YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
Verizon said the free Internet service will be available to all FiOS service customers from October 1, although it said it will not be available in all areas.
Verizon’s service will work across all devices, but the company will focus on devices with the most bandwidth and processing power, it said.
Verifying your Verizon FiOS account will allow you to stream unlimited high-definition video, music, and video content, without having any data limits.
Customers who want to access video from Verizon Fios can sign up for a FiOS TV service that costs $49 a month, and customers who sign up with Verizon’s online service can stream unlimited music and video on a monthly basis.
Verision said it is offering the new Internet service in conjunction with a free smartphone app.
