Business Insider / Business Insider article Business Wire: Verizon’s internet service will cost $3.00 per hour to use, depending on the speed of the connection, and will be available from 8am-5pm Pacific Standard Time (PSPT) for the next two months.
The service will be rolled out in select regions beginning April 1, 2018, with the option to buy additional hours per month.
The $3 fee will come out of Verizon’s monthly wireless data plan, and is not tied to data plans that are available from some other companies, Verizon spokesperson Jessica O’Dowd said.
Verizon will charge $2.99 per gigabyte of data per month, and $3 per gigabit per month for unlimited data plans.
Verizon’s wireless internet service costs $35 per month to $45 per month per line.
The company will roll out a new service that will include both the Internet Speed Test and the Video-to-Audio (VTA) Test, the spokesperson said.
The new service will include a “comparison tool” to show how well the speeds of each connection compare to other plans in the market, and offer a “fair” comparison to other services, the Verizon spokesperson said, but it won’t be available for customers to use.
The “video-to and audio-to tests” will be a new feature, and customers will be able to see if the video-to test is slower than the audio-only test, O’Donnell said.
The Verizon Wireless Internet service will provide “unlimited” internet access for $39.99/month for the first two months, and a $39/month plan for the following two months after that, the company said.
Customers who sign up for the service in the first month will be charged $4.99 a month for internet access after that.
Verizon Wireless customers will also be charged an additional $2 per gig and $1.99 for the remaining month after that in addition to the $3 monthly fee.
Verizon Wireless customers who sign on for the new service in April 2018 will be eligible for an additional three months of internet service, the carrier said.
For those who signed up in March 2018, they will be entitled to an additional two months of service after that period.
The new service includes a $25 surcharge per month in the United States and Canada, and Verizon Wireless is offering free voice calls and text messages in the U.S. and Canada.
The company said it is also offering free texting for Verizon Wireless subscribers in Canada for a month.
